On May 14, 2011, fair trade businesses and consumers around the world will celebrate the annual World Fair Trade Day! This year’s theme, Trade For People—Fair Trade Your World! expresses “the strong belief in the need to put people and the environment at the heart of trade and consumption” (http://www.worldfairtradeday10.org/index.php/en/wftd-2011). World Fair Trade Day 2011 challenges consumers, businesses, and governments to support sustainable development and poverty alleviation by purchasing Fair Trade.

FFTI’s celebration will take place in Yogyakarta on May 29. Join us for a parade featuring antique bicycles in the morning, and a product bazaar in the afternoon showcasing craft and food products.

FFTI also joined hundreds of other fair trade producers, companies, and individuals in signing the 2011 World Fair Trade Day Declaration.

FFTI’s member groups are celebrating World Fair Trade Day in different ways:

Pekerti Nusantara will be celebrating on May 14 in Yogyakarta with a tree-planting activity, “Craft for Trees.” They also held a craft bazaar in April.

Mitra Bali will be celebrating on May 14 in Ubud, with a special event launching several newly constructed workshops for artisans.
