FFTI Participation in Inacraft 2011
Forum Fair Trade Indonesia (FFTI) recently attended Inacraft, held at Jakarta Convention Center on 20-24 April 2011. This is the first time that FFTI, representing Indonesia’s fair trade organizations, attended Inacraft.
As in previous years, Inacraft 2011 was organized by ASEPHI, the Association of Indonesian Handicraft Exporters and Producers, and was also supported by PT Mediatama Binakreasi. FFTI participated as a registered member of ASEPHI Bali.
The theme of this 13th Inacraft was: “From Smart Village to Global Market,” with the sub-theme “Through Inacraft 2011 we develop products for the creative economy.” The convention’s icon for this year highlighted the “Magnificent Heritage of Lampung,” exhibiting design themes from Lampung Sumatra.
FFTI’s members that participated in Inacraft 2011 were: Pekerti Nusantara (Jakarta), Apikri (Yogyakarta), Mitra Bali (Bali), Lombok Pottery Centre (Lombok), Arum Dalu Mekar (Bali), Java Ixora (Yogyakarta). The other members, CD Craft and JPKP Buton, could not join us this year because of internal activities; and Sahani did not join us because their product focus is on food, while this exhibition focused on crafts only.

FFTI’s stand measured 3m x 3m, and was located in the Assembly Hall 3 No. 33. This strategic location brought us many visitors; we were in the international hall, surrounded by not only Indonesian products, but also products from countries such as India, Iran, and Myanmar. The location was also close to the main lobby and entrance, so visitors entering the exhibition definitely made time to come into this room.

FFTI exhibited diverse products: Pekerti Nusantara brought recycled products, which attracted many visitors. Apikri highlighted their unique new products made with kancu leaves. Mitra Bali displayed elegant jewelry designs. Arum Dalu Mekar featured recycled glass products in many different functional formats. Lombok Pottery Centre displayed unique and functional handcrafted pottery products. Java Ixora featured an attractive range of recycled products, Troso, and batik accessories. On the table we also offered brochures and business cards of FFTI, and of each member.

We gained many valuable lessons and experiences from participation in Inacraft this year, including: mechanisms for the preparation of goods, layout, sales systems, and market segmentation. Thank you to Oxfam New Zealand who supported our participation in this activity. We look forward to improving on our participation at the next Inacraft.
